Umbraco feature list

Stunningly simple editing

Umbraco's user interface (the editor) has been designed to be as easy to use as possible. Based on well-known user interface design techniques, the editing experience has been simplified by removing anything that isn't essential to the task of creating and editing your content.

The focus is on your content, not Umbraco. So when editing, you can see your site's pages in a tree view - just like in Windows Explorer. To edit a page, you simple select the page in the tree view. When you're done hit 'Save' to save a draft or 'Publish' to make the changes live on the site. Its that simple!

But don't be fooled by the simplicity, beneath lies a powerful system with advanced role-based security, Microsoft Word style WYSIWYG editor, digital asset management, a flexible notification system, plus many more features that usually garner an "enterprise" label on the box.

But you don't need to know about that. All you need to know is that it works.

Microsoft Word 2007 integration

Even though Umbraco has a built-in, easy to use editor that works in all browsers on both Mac's and PC's, sometimes its more convenient to use a desktop application to write your content. That's why umbraco includes Microsoft Word 2007 integration.

You can access Umbraco pages direct from your desktop, allowing you to edit content and create new pages, you can even work off-line.

Version control

As with all good enterprise content management systems, Umbraco stores every version of your pages, allowing you to 'rollback' to a previous version instantly.

Simply select the page in the editor, right click and find the version. It even tells you what changes were made so you can see. Hit save... Done.

Translation services

Umbraco comes with an integrated workflow to simplify content translation when working with translation agencies.

Access is given to the content in question, which can then be approved by your editors before publishing

Umbraco will never get in the way. Everything is email-based with automatic notifications so everyone involved knows exactly when content is sent to, and returned from, the translation agency.

Content scheduling

You can schedule content to appear and then disappear at pre-determined dates. So feel free to go home early, or take that much needed break.

You can be sure that your special offer or press release will appear on the site, even if you are sunning yourself on the beach.

Media library

Umbraco's media library stores all your site's digital assets such as images, documents, videos and Flash files.

Once uploaded, your files are instantly available everywhere in Umbraco. If you update a file, it changes everywhere - saving you the headache of checking.

Platform independence

Umbraco has been designed to work everywhere; Windows, Linux, Mac OSX and any modern browser such as Internet Explorer 8, Firefox, Safari and Chrome.

No matter what computer system your company runs on, the Umbraco editor will work.

Role based permissions

You can control administrative access to whole sections, individual pages and specific tasks with ease using Umbraco's role based permissions.

Make a user an editor, and they can only save for approval. Make them an approver, and they can then publish the changes to the website. Its as easy as a ticking a box.

Workflow and event tracking

If you need to control your content approval process or just want to be notified of certain events happening on your site, you can use Umbraco's built-in notification system. You choose the events of interest to you and which area of the site it includes.

Multi-language capabilities

The internet has opened up opportunities in global markets that until recently would have seemed impossible.

Not only can you use Umbraco to create multi-lingual websites for your customers, your website administrators can also select their desired language for the Umbraco editor.

Umbraco ships with more than 15 pre-defined languages that provide a localised user interface. New languages can be added with ease. All the text in the Umbraco editor is stored in a separate text file. If you need a language that isn't provided by Umbraco, simply translate the file and upload. Its as simple as that!

Umbraco currently includes: English, French, Spanish (with variants), Dutch, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Greek.

Unlimited potential

Using Umbraco, the potential to integrate and develop the system is almost infinite.

Perhaps you use Microsoft Sharepoint as your intranet, or you have another database application that holds information that you'd like to get on the web. Umbraco can hook into any system, and either display or import the data into the page structure automatically.
